Do I Have A Dream?

dream

Awhile back we explored dreams and how to find your own dream. It’s generally found when we discover what outrages us. What we see that we think should not happen.

There lies a danger in that though. I’ll let C.S. Lewis deliver the warning.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

The dream should help people, not to bend them to your will of how things should be. To truly change a person requires quite literally a change of heart. The behavior follows the heart since ‘from the heart the mouth speaks.’ Help them, introduce them to Jesus, and let him work.

I’ve struggled with mine, usually it’s filling gaps by helping wherever it it’s needed. I did find what angers me now. It’s when someone or something gets in the way of me helping someone.

Surprisingly, not just anyone, but particularly the grieving. It took an act of God to be able to attend as much of the GriefShare classes the last cycle. The thought of that battle again irritated me to no end.

I can set aside a lot of things, even helping others, if it’s to address a deeper need. There’s a danger in that as well. In helping others it becomes your top priority. Even altruism can become a false god.

I realized that if I walk away from my current job it’ll be for a career that helps people or part of an organization that does. However, the mission field is everywhere. We can serve anywhere.

Where we are, Christ is there. We’re the church, his representatives, the ambassadors for the Kingdom of God. We just have to remember who we represent always, as we go out doing good and loving people. When they ask why, tell them this:

  1. I was (what kind of person)
  2. Then I met Jesus, now I’m (what changed)
  3. I’m still changing and growing.

I’m still working through the work schedule issue. I do see light at the end of the tunnel though. If it’s truly His plan for me, he’ll make a way, just like before.
