With campaign season revving up, its time to get to know the ones that want to be President. Going to look at their record if they have one, what positions they take if they don’t. Coupled with my thoughts on the said candidate. I’m not going to list the party, because that’s just a banner politicians hide behind, look at person, not the party. To set the stage, here’s the link to her campaign website here and official House website here. This has his positions, but I prefer to look at her record first.
Entitlements: Opposes ObamaCare, supporting instead opening up the state lines and letting me buy insurance from any of the other 49 states, add more to my Health Savings Account, write off my medical expenses on my taxes and tort reform.
She wants to wean people from Social Security and Medicare.
Is for school choice, even starting a charter school with others. Opposed raising the amount of money in the Pell Grants in the College Cost and Access Act.
National Security: Voted for the Surge, after traveling to Iraq to look it over. Supports the War on Terror, a fully secured border(whatever that means) and is a nuclear armed Iran.
Civil Rights: Voted for the PATRIOT Act.
Pro Life. Against CFL’s.
Voted for Concealed Carry Reciprocity, against Washington D.C’s gun ban.
Wrote a constitutional amendment defining marriage.
Opposed mandatory public service.
The Economy and Taxes: She is for a Balanced Budget Amendment. Coauthored the Credit and Debit Card Receipt, against Cap & Trade, for tapping our resources.
Opposed the Bailouts, preferred a plan to suspend market-to-market and capital gains, benchmarks for reducing the debt, renegotiate labor deals and financial help as interim insurance.
Wants to break up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and against golden parachutes for employees of Government Sponsored Entities such as the above listed. Against all new taxes, wants to repeal the Death and Capital Gains taxes. Is for a single-rate tax system like the FairTax or Flat Tax.
Government Transparency: Co-sponsored the Firearms Fairness Act that requires the BATFE to tape every firearms test and not edit it.
Voted Yes on requiring lobbyists to show bundled donations. Identifying the Constitutionality of every bill and the Constitutional Authority of every new law.
Audit Federal Agencies for reform or elimination.
Earmark Moratorium until the budget is balanced.
All laws have to cite Constitutional Authority. Repeal automatic congressional pay raises.
PROS: On Entitlements we agree, and on government mandates we agree. Government should not tell us what we can buy, like light bulbs. Has voted against gun-control and recognizes the Second Amendment. On the economy and taxes, I also agree. I also like her stance on Transparency and reform for the government but there is a problem with “all laws and bills have to cite Constitutional Authority” and some of the things she’s pushed.
CONS: National Security, not so much. I think we intervene to much. Voted for the Patriot Act, how does that clash with her constitutional authority stance listed above, since it clearly violates the 4th Amendment. Her support of a ban on sawed off shotguns for that matter. Earmark moratorium? No, I prefer a ban, earmarks are used to buy votes. Want’s Government to define marriage? Government has no right to define anything between consenting adults and stop it. I like the Constitutional Authority, it should be used to measure candidates against. Michele didn’t do that well against it. She gets a D.
Do your own research, see if you can agree enough with his actions to vote for him or not to. It’s up to you ultimately.
