Are We Being Lied To?

Government lying to turn public sentiment into their favor? Yeah I believe it, but to go this far? Operation Northwoods from Wikipedia:

Operation Northwoods was a series of false-flag proposals that originated within the United States government in 1962. The proposals called for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), or other operatives, to commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities and elsewhere. These acts of terrorism were to be blamed on Cuba in order to create public support for a war against that nation, which had recently become communist under Fidel Castro.[2] One part of Operation Northwoods was to “develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington.”

Operation Northwoods proposals included hijackings and bombings followed by the introduction of phony evidence that would implicate the Cuban government.

Several other proposals were included within Operation Northwoods, including real or simulated actions against various U.S. military and civilian targets. The plan was drafted by the Joint Chiefs of Staff, signed by Chairman Lyman Lemnitzer and sent to the Secretary of Defense. Although part of the U.S. government’s Cuban Projectanti-communist initiative, Operation Northwoods was never officially accepted and the proposals included in the plan were never executed.

Covert operations to manufacture a threat to make Americans afraid and support a war on Communism!? Hmmm, are they still doing that today with the War on Terror? A lot of the near misses since 9-11 are “radicalized” Americans that got there bomb parts from the undercover FBI agents who provide fake parts.Do we get hit, yeah. Ft. Hood and the Recruiting Office shooting. But most of the prevented attacks? I don’t know. When your scared, you’re not that rational.

In light of this information, how can I trust that the government isn’t manufacturing this, so they can keep taking civil liberties? The First, Second, Fourth, Sixth Amendments off the top of my head. Sure they said the plan never went into effect but the fact they considered it, gives me pause.

“My Congressperson/Senator would never allow it?”

Are you sure they even know? Originally you had 3 branches of government:

Executive: The President/Vice President and the Cabinet(Directs the country)

Legislative: Congress(The law-making body, keeps the President in check)

Judicial: Keeps both in check, but ideologies are similar to usually to appoints them.

President picks people, Congress approves them. Courts make sure laws fit into the confines of the Constitution. That was the plan at least. We have a 4th Branch of Government now.

I call it the Regulatory Branch. All the little government agencies that the laws passed give the power to turn them into scalpels of regulation that slice freedoms away. EPA, DEA, the list goes on here. Sure most of their heads are subordinate to the President, but laws are harder to kill than a vampire. The country is run by two political parties, both wanting their brand of control. All those regulations go one way or another and by the end of the day, squash both freedoms. And so more control is gained. Slowly, by appealing to the public’s emotions for a mandate to do it, or quickly by scaring them with such operations like Northwoods.

Its hard to trust a government that is still bigoted, stares over our shoulders and picks our pockets without remorse. Something for you to think about.

  1. in short, yes, our government does lie to us. The government classified 16 million documents last year. Thats a lot of secrets for our “protection.”

I’m glad you wrote about Northwood. The majority of our country think it’s inconceivable that our government would directly harm or put us in harms way, but it’s right out there in the open…they are.

The 2nd Gulf of Tonkin “incident” was a complete lie. A lie that LBJ needed to engage in Vietnam. I’d say that’s directly putting American’s in harms way yea? 50,000 Americans KIA over a lie.

President Bush and his top aides publicly made 935 false statements about the security risk posed by Iraq in the two years following September 11, 2001. Lets say that’s over exaggerated…lets say it was only 1 lie. Does that really make it better? No, you are lying, misrepresenting to harm Americans or put them in harms way.

The government lied about Jessica Lynch because they wanted a “hero.”

The government lied about Pat Tillman in a very blatant, disgusting manner and everybody that was involved in the congressional hearing’s laughed about it. They knew they couldn’t be touched and thought it was funny

so yes, i’d say our government lies to us more than they tell us the truth. These days, a rational person question’s everything the government does because of their own track record, but if you do so, your “un-patriotic” or a “conspiracy theorist.”

    • I hadn’t even heard of it until a couple of weeks back, then I could see how the plan may be in effect today. And it disturbed me. On top of the fact all the laws the two sides make, when one goes out of power, their laws remain to bind us.
