And We Are Off to the Con!

Posted in Authors, Books, Current Events, Life, writing with tags , , , , , , on August 30, 2012 by Ronin

I’m in Mississippi! Or I should be when this publishes to Ronin’s Journey.

Why am I in Ole’ Miss? Road trip to my second favorite event of the year. DragonCon and more importantly…Wolf Fest.

Where authors of the book Howls From The Wolfpack get together with other wolves, black sheep, etc. This year we’ll have the Feast, and I’ll have a small (very small) book signing there.

We should arrive in Atlanta at 3pm, I hope. And Viking, Thorin, and Burke should already be there. Get our badges, planner, and go eat. Catch up and hash out an agenda. Then off to sleep. Gotta wake up to meet the Swatcops. They’re driving all night to arrive at 5am. You bastards. Making me wake up.

The rest will arrive on Friday and we can explore the Con. My wife is going, looking forward to the celebrities, and will be the Abyss Press photographer, because she’s better at it than I am.

I’ll post pictures on my Facebook page s Ronin/AbyssPress and exclusive ones in the newsletter. Which you can subscribe to by emailing SUBSCRIBE to abysspress@gmail.com

When I get 25 subscribers I’ll send a discount code for 2$ off in the next newsletter for my books.

To keep up with the fun this weekend you can watch the Ronin page or for quicker updates, follow me on Twitter at twitter.com/RoninsJourney

See you later! Unless you’re at the Con, and maybe I’ll see you there.

To Endorse Romney, or Not To Endorse? That’s the Question.

Posted in Commentary, Current Events, Government, Politics with tags , , , , , , , , on August 29, 2012 by Ronin

So the RNC and a majority of its inhabitants have their bottom lips poked out because Ron Paul refused to endorse Romney.

So I ask them this.

Would they endorse Barack Obama? And why not?

Depending on the answer you’ll see party ideologues, nationalists, talking points to well thought out answers. And now do this.

Put yourself in Ron’s shoes, consider his message, the principles of it, and how he wants to get there. Now reconsider your message, principles and how you want to get there.

Does that jive with any of the candidates’, Johnson, Obama or Romney’s message? And would you endorse someone who’s the antithesis of your principles?

Consider that.

Time To Make Congress Actually Represent

Posted in Activism, Current Events, Government, Politics with tags , , , , , , on August 28, 2012 by Ronin

One of my favorite podcasts is the Libertarian Solution on the Liberty Radio Network. Among it’s sponsors is a group called Downsize DC, who’s whole agenda is to force the Congressmen and Women along with the Senators to actually read the bills. Or be present when its read. And then sign an affidavit saying they were present when its read if they wish to vote for it.

Imagine this being in effect when the 2,000+ page monster that is ObamaCare was just a bill. What differences would that had made.

Currently Sen. Rand Paul has introduced this bill as S.  3360 in the Senate. You can urge your Senators to co-sponsor the bill here

The Downsize DC homepage is here

Get involved, because I won’t save you from your chains if you’re unwilling to save yourself.

Still no verification of Governor Gary Johnson in the debates or polls. But he does get some mention in the news and here you go, last week’s news. Including Fox, who admits that the debates are a sham ran by the Democrats and GOP.

Am I Ready To Press the 53lb Kettlebell?

First, a word on Pavel and the RKC. Right after it was announced he and John Du Cane were parting ways, site traffic jumped on my kettlebell posts.

Thanks!

Pavel is a master trainer and I first learned about him when a friend gave me Power To The People. When I picked up a kettlebell, I went to Pavel on Amazon and got Enter The Kettlebell. And I haven’t left the program laid out in that book yet. The Rite of Passage just plain works. I started with a 30lb kettlebell and will start on a 53lb on Monday.

John has lots of various experts, Al, Paul Wade and Master RKCs like Dave Whitely, Dan Johns and Geoffery Neupert. I see both sides evolving and growing. They have the potential.

Now…on to the test. To see if you’re ready to press the next size bell, Pavel wrote in ETK that you rest a couple of days and then Press the next size up kettlebell as much as you can.

Five  reps is the minimum to move up.

Fitness Progress Report:

Military Press with the 53lb.

Left: 5 times                         Right: 5 times

At least I’m balanced.

  • One-Rep Max Weight

         Left:60lbs (was 56lbs)      Right: 60lbs (was 55lbs)

Not a whole lot of difference, just a few weeks back I tested this. But it’s improvement. And this is why I’m not worried about Pavel. Plus I’m 12lbs from pressing half my bodyweight. Not far.

Now I wonder how many reps my friends will get next week at Wolf Fest. Oh yeah, have kettlebell, will travel.
